Gov. Timipre Sylva appoints GCE holder to head Finance Ministry

Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State yesterday shocked the Nine Commissioner nominees with the allocation of Finance Ministry to a General Certificate of Education (GCE) holder, Stephen Ogulla, saying the appointment of a new cabinet is to identify ongoing projects and complete them within the few months remaining for the administration.
Other portfolios allocated by the Bayelsa Governor include, the Ministry of Budget, Planning and Economic Management to be headed by Dr. Sylva Charlse Opuala. Engr. Ebitei William-Francis (Works and Transport), Mr. Opukiri Jones-Ere (Sports), Robert Enogha (Environment), Blessing Apoloma (Agriculture).
The Housing and Urban Development Ministry was allocated to Mr. ThankGod Apere and Mike Ogiasa was allocated a Portfolio as a Special Duties Commissioner, Federal Capital Territory and Presidency.
Governor Timipre Sylva, while announcing the portfolios of Commissioner nominees yesterday at the swearing-in ceremony held in Yenagoa, said though the sack of his former cabinet was provoked by noticeable fatigue, the appointment of the nine persons to serve in a new cabinet is expected to work on set goals. He tasked the newly sworn in Commissioners to ensure the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people.
He said the newly appointed commissioners should note that the administration has less than a year to come to an end and will expect them to work harder to complete the assignment before them, “Bayelsans are looking up to you and we must have set goals and projects to be completed.”
Governor Sylva announced that he would be sending a list of other Commissioner nominees to the House of Assembly for consideration,” The appointment of the nine in the first batch was to fill the vacuum created with the sack of the last cabinet.”
