JJC: DON JAZZY AND WANDE COAL WRITE SONGS FOR D'BANJ

JJC
D'Banj, in a recent interview on the ongoing Mohits saga, said Don Jazzy was "cheated by JJC, and I was present. I swore never to cheat him".

In a response, JJC debunked allegations made by D'Banj and said: "I developed Big Brovas, which got signed to SONY, and they blew up. I then started JJC, the 419 squad-which was a squad of people speaking and rapping in yoruba. Along the way, MP brought a guy called D'banj to my house and D'banj came as a normal up and coming artiste would normally do; "Baba please your name is big, please help me."
D'BANJ
He went further, "Yeah and of course, like the mugu, mumu button activated JJC, I introduced him to my band. What can you do, he sang. I said that is not really good, the harmonica that you play is really good let's work on that one and develop your style. Along the way, another guy called Kas brought Don Jazzy to my house and Don Jazzy at that time was playing for Solek as a piano player and they both started working with me.

"I took all of them to WOMAD, which is the biggest African world stage they could be. We were performing in every single show that there was possible. Anything that was happening, JJC and 419 was doing it, we were at the top of the game and a lot of people can actually testify to that."
JJC also claimed to have taught Don Jazzy how to produce, and confirmed that Don Jazzy and Wande Coal write songs for D'Banj.

"I used to pay him a thousand pounds every month in 2004, which was almost N250,000, for being a trainee. Now I come back to Nigeria to shoot a video, and I see Don Jazzy and D'Banj. Don Jazzy was even talking to me, D’banj was carrying himself like some superstar.

Yes, he has made something of himself and salute to the music that Don Jazzy made because I know from 'Mobolowowon' to all the way, na me and Don Jazzy write am. Now the rest of the songs that followed, I am sure Don Jazzy wrote it. If na lie let me hear, even Wande Coal don tell me say na Don Jazzy and him dey work for the records," JJC said.

"Now you are Mr D'Banj koko koko, you think you are God. What did you call yourself? Jesus of Nigerian music? I paid them to learn how to become better themselves, so that you can become someone big and then for you to turn around and be slandering my name? You have the mouth to say it, after you don eat my food, sleep in my bed. I even give you girl, you are the one that was the bad seed."

Meanwhile Don Jazzy also dismissed the alleged financial claims by D'Banj on houses and cars, adding that he would not be dragged into making allegations and counter-allegations.

"Personally my advice to fans is to concentrate on good music from Mo’Hits and well even from D'Banj himself. Music is what we were made to create and not controversies."

Intercontinental Bank’s Biggest Debtors Are Its New Owners

Intercontinental Bank’s Biggest Debtors Are Its New Owners

Street Journal’s investigations have revealed discrepancies in the sale of Intercontinental Bank Plc to Access Bank by the Central Bank of Nigeria. It has been discovered that the Central Bank Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido waived a loan of N8.9Billion for Senator Bukola Saraki and another N16.2 billion loan for Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, the MD of Access Bank, to help them buy Intercontinental Bank over. Before now, there had been allegations that the former Kwara State Governor was at the background of a grand scheme to take over Intercontinental Bank.

After Erastus Akingbola was sacked as the bank’s MD, Mahmoud Lai Alabi was named as his replacement. Alabi was until his appointment on Saraki’s payroll, being the Chairman of Shonga Farms, a Saraki initiative that brought displaced Zimbabwean farmers to Kwara State.

It was reported then that one of the first steps Alabi took as MD was to write off Dr. Saraki’s N8.1 billion loan. Alabi also went ahead to sack Executive Directors of the bank who were replaced one after the other with staff of Saraki’s Societe Generale Bank. It might not be wrong therefore to conclude that Saraki has been running Intercontinental Bank by proxy since the new management took over.

Questions are already being asked within the banking sector regarding how Aig Imoukhuede who is one of the biggest debtors on Intercontinental Bank’s list suddenly mustered enough resources to buy the bank.

It was announced recently that Access Bank would acquire 75% stake in Intercontinental Bank for N 50 billion and combine both firms’ operations within one year of the merger.

Shareholders of the latter had reportedly given their support to the merger, though it remains unknown whether the shareholders are aware of the situation or they just decided to ignore.

The move which is plagued with irregularities has exposed the Central Bank Governor’s inadequacies. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who has hitherto been seen as one of the most upright men in the country has come under criticism especially regarding the motive behind the sale of the bank. Questions are also being raised about his sincerity in the deal. Documents in Street Journal’s possession revealed that a N 16.2 billion loan was duly obtained from Intercontinental Bank Plc and signed for by Aig Imokhuede, the Access Bank MD in favour of United Alliance Company of Nigeria.

Sequel to the Central Bank’s regulatory action on five banks two years ago, the apex bank published a list of defaulting customers of the banks who were asked to pay up to prevent appropriate legal actions from being taken against them by the apex bank.

Those on the list were described by the Central Bank as the “largest debtors.” Incidentally, the third slot on the list of the largest debtors published on August 18, 2009 was occupied by United Alliance Company of Nigeria and the balance of its indebtedness as of May 31, 2009 was N 16, 247,686,168.18. Its Directors were listed as Mr. Aig Imoukhuede and Mr. Herbert Wigwe both of who are also Group Managing Directors of Access Bank.

In a letter sent to the United Alliance Company from Intercontinental Bank Plc on November 19, 2009, terms of restructuring a N 10.3 billion loan facility were outlined. The loan had a tenure of 36 months and according to the purpose stated in the document, the time extension was to enable the borrower, i.e United Alliance to liquidate its outstanding indebtedness to Intercontinental Bank in line with its cash flow.

While repayment was to commence in April, 2010, an interest of 18% was agreed on. And as part of the conditions, 894,690,600 units of Access Bank shares were listed as security as well as “joint and several personal guarantees of Mr. Herbert Wigwe and Mr. Aigoje Aig-Imokhuede for the full facility amount and accrued interest.”

A letter from United Alliance to Intercontinental Bank dated 10th March, 2011 showed that Intercontinental Bank was being owed the sum of N 10.2 billion by United Alliance, a company headed by Aig Imokhuede, Intercontinental Bank’s new buyer. Street Journal gathered that as it stands, Access Bank’s two Group Managing Directors are indebted to Intercontinental Bank to the tune of N 10.2 billion.

The March, 10 letter which was to help United Alliance get an extension for the repayment of the facility reads inter alia: “we would like to assure you of our absolute commitment in repaying the above facility. Repayments of these facilities are based on the cash flows generated by United Alliance through its investment management activities. However we are currently having difficulties matching our cash flow with the current agreed repayment dates. We hereby write to formally request for a change in the repayment dates of our facility to ensure that it synchronises with our cash flow in order to meet the obligation as the fall due.”

It was also requested in the letter that the dates be moved to “at least the last day of the first week of each calendar quarter. In other words to at least the 7th day of April, July, October and December respectively of the year.”

Another letter confirming the status of United Alliance was received by Intercontinental Bank Plc when the July fall date came. A letter signed by Chizoba Ufoeze on behalf of the United Alliance Company of Nigeria Limited read in part “we acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 30th June, 2011 informing us of the portion of the term loan (N 1, 307, 465,060.12) due on 7 July, 2011. However, due to constrain in our cash flow, we humbly request a 30 day extension to clean up this obligation. We assure you of our determination to liquidate this term loan within the term specified in the offer letter and thanks for your patience. ”
Many of those who know the internal workings of Intercontinental and Access Banks are yet to come to terms with how Aig-Imokhuede, one of the biggest debtors of Intercontinental Bank, who has asked for extension of repayment over and over would offer to buy the bank over and Malam Sanusi Lamido would go ahead to sell the whole Bank to him at a ridiculous N50 billion when even the quarterly profit of Intercontinental Bank is more than 50billion Naira.

Michael Jackson’s former bodyguard claims he's Blanket’s real father

32-year-old Matt Fiddes is launching legal action to prove he is the biological father of Jackson’s 10-year old child, Blanket (Prince Michael II).

Matt first claimed he was Blanket’s real father in 2010, but had no legal or medical back up. Now, he says he’s ready to back it up with a DNA test, telling the Daily Star ‘I am going to lodge my DNA and formerly ask the Jacksons for access. I want visitation rights’.

In his conversation with the tabloid, Matt said he spoke with the late musician in 2002 when he visited him in Berlin after he dangled the then nine month old Blanket off a hotel balcony.

He claims Michael Jackson confirmed using his sperm in producing the child in their meeting in Berlin, saying ‘He is my child Matt, but I used your sperm in producing him.’

The former bodyguard said Jackson offered him £500,000 for the sperm, but he turned down the offer and donated it instead.

Fiddes added ‘All I want is access to my child, to take him out, and spend some time together. My mum is dying of cancer. I want her to see Blanket more than anything.’

The ex-bodyguard already has three other children, but insists he donated the sperm to Jackson in 2001, after the musician told him he wanted an ‘athletic child’

JAMES IBORI JAILED FOR 13YEARS FOR FRAUD TOTALLING £50m

• Judge sends supporters out of court

• Today is judgement day

IF a crowd of supporters of erstwhile Delta State Governor James Ibori thought they could disrupt the course of justice in a United Kingdom (UK) court, they were sorely disappointed.

The rancorous crowd was sent out of the court that announced tomorrow as the day the former governor will be sentenced.

Ibori is being tried in Southwark Crown Court in London for embezzling public funds while he was a governor of Delta State.

During the sentencing phase of Ibori, which began yesterday, the prosecution gave details of Ibori’s expertise as a criminal embezzler.

At yesterday’s session, which was a prelude to the former governor’s formal sentencing today – the prosecution laid bare the methods Ibori used to loot the treasury of Delta State.

According to lead prosecutor Sasha Wass, Ibori “lived and behaved like a millionaire.” She detailed how the former governor started off as a petty thief who dipped hands in the till of his employers. She told the court that the man who was once unable to afford his monthly mortgage payments “went on to live the lifestyle of a property tycoon, living like royalty.”

In February, Ibori pleaded guilty to several counts of money laundering and fraud. The prosecution said yesterday that this admission established that the whole case against Ibori was solid and proven, pointing to the greed with which the convict enriched himself by stealing from the people of Delta.

Wass said that Ibori had always planned to defraud Delta State during his time as governor, and had made preparations for it in the years before taking office. Ibori had acquired a new passport with a new date of birth in order to disguise two previous convictions for theft and fraud in the UK. She disclosed that he soon bought a house, the first in a property portfolio that by the time he stepped down as governor was valued at nearly £7 million.

This portfolio consisted of three houses in the UK: two in London and one in Dorset near the expensive private school where his three children were enrolled. In addition, the former governor purchased real estate in South Africa and Houston, Texas. Judge Anthony Pitts was shown a picture from an estate agent’s brochure of the South African mansion Ibori bought for £3 million.

“It says on the details, it’s ‘simply sensational.’ I’m inclined to agree with them,” Judge Pitts said.

The court also heard how by 2007, Ibori had spent £170,000 on motorcars, school fees of £143,000, and £920,000 on an American Express “centurion” card, the credit card for the incredibly wealthy. The court also heard how Ibori bought a £120,000 Mercedes Maybach, “the German equivalent of a Rolls Royce” for his South African mansion. The judge also heard that Ibori was in the process of buying a £20 million challenger jet while being investigated by the UK police.

In addition, the prosecution outlined how Ibori’s relatives and his mistress aided him in siphoning off money from the Delta State treasury into accounts in their names, and then into buying property in the UK, South Africa and the U.S.  Wass detailed the former governor’s clever ploy of using different solicitors to buy several property, using a different one each time in order to disguise his involvement and throw off suspicions of money laundering.

The court heard that former Governor Victor Attah of Akwa Ibom State finally introduced Ibori to Badrash Gohil, a lawyer who “specialised in money laundering,” according to Wass.  She added that Gohil helped the former governor of Delta State to set up Swiss bank accounts and trusts in the tax havens of the Seychelles as well as the Channel islands in order to hide his thieving.

The UK prosecutor revealed details of huge deposits that the former governor held in a variety of bank accounts that were never disclosed on official asset declarations in Nigeria as required by the Nigerian constitution. Among the deposits were €20 million in a trust fund called Zircon in the Channel island of Guernsey, and £1 million in another trust called Onyx. In addition, Ibori had six accounts with Barclays Bank in London with more than £1million in total. He also had an account in Colorado in the U.S. as well as the use of Gohil’s client account.

According to the prosecutor, when the UK police searched Gohil’s office, they found a secret compartment behind a fireplace that held two external hard drives and information that was “very incriminating.” Gohil, who was convicted last year and sentenced to 10 years in jail, had played a key role in what the police dubbed “the V-Mobile fraud.” The prosecutor is expected to outline the details of that fraud before the court this afternoon.

Wass will continue to address the court about Ibori’s extensive criminal activities and abuse of office.

Earlier, police were called to the court. Three police vans, five cars and a helicopter were deployed to the court after reports of a disturbance inside, according to the Agence France Presse (AFP).

Witnesses said supporters of Ibori   became loud and aggressive when they were excluded from the packed courtroom.

“We were there to provide assistance because it was oversubscribed — there were just too many people to get in,” a police spokeswoman told AFP, adding that order had been quickly restored.

A court spokesman confirmed there had been overcrowding and that the start of the hearing had been delayed.

Ibori has faced corruption charges in Nigeria and in Britain, where he was pursued by a police unit, which investigates the activities of foreign officials who seek to launder stolen assets in Britain.

Scotland Yard says that during his two terms as governor, Ibori “systematically stole funds from the public purse, secreting them in bank accounts across the world”, in a fraud worth $250 million.

D'banj: I shared over N1bn with Don Jazzy in Mo’Hits days

Warring founders of Mo’Hits, Don Jazzy and D’banj, are throwing barbs at each other as they move to divest their investments and interests in the label, a confidential email correspondence between them has revealed.

If you are one of those who still think that the fallout of Mo’Hits founders, D’banj and Don Jazzy, is a rumour which will dissipate in no time, you probably still live in the past. In fact, in order to make the future safe from the past, the duo is already formalising plans to share their assets especially on the ownership of the mouth-watering Mo’Hits catalogue comprising all D’banj’s albums (No Long Thing, Rundown Funk U Up and The Entertainer), Wande Coal’s Mushin to Mo’Hits and The Mo’Hits Crew All Stars’ album, Curriculum Vitae among others. Thus, as you read, Mo’Hits is only waiting for legal certification before it is pronounced dead. And the pallbearers are already waiting in the flanks to ferry the remains of the beloved label to its final resting place, bringing to a painful end the reign and run of the successful label.

In the meantime, the Mo’Hits crew has been divided, as the two figures in the unfolding drama are moving out with their different disciples: D’banj’s younger brother, K-Switch, understandably, goes with him while Wande Coal, Dr Sid and D’Prince have settled for Don Jazzy. The future of the label’s artiste manager, Sunday Are, is unknown. Long before the separation became public knowledge, D’banj and Don Jazzy were no longer on speaking terms, an authoritative source tells E-Punch.

Neither do they see eye to eye. In fact, at their last concert in New York in February, they only met on stage because each artiste had his own cubicle. Rather, they communicate via email only when necessary. In a confidential email correspondence between the former collaborators, exclusively obtained by E-Punch, the sordid details that might have led to their break up are veiled, but the bitterness-laced correspondences are open about their claims for the assets of Mo’Hits especially the catalogues of all the artistes.

D’banj must pay all the debts of Mo’Hits – Don Jazzy
In regards to D’banj’s claim for 100 percent ownership of all songs recorded under the Mo’Hits imprint, the acclaimed producer in an email on March 17th, states, “That Mo’Hits Records does not already own 100 per cent of the songs. Note that Mo’Hits Records only owns 60 per cent of the songs and 40 per cent belongs to the individual artiste. So, 40 per cent of the songs is not mine to give.” He continues, “That me (I am) giving him (D’banj) my share of the catalogue does not and will never include him having the right to stop them (the artistes)  from performing the songs or give him the right to claim any monies for live performances of these songs. And any loans or debt owed by Mo’Hits records as at today will be cleared by Mr D’banj as I am clearly not aware of any.”

Don Jazzy states further that the catalogues he is releasing to his former partner only consists of songs already released in an album exempting new singles and unreleased materials. “So, songs like Wande Coal’s Go Low and Been Long You Saw Me are not part of this catalogue he is receiving. Also, an artiste like D’Prince, not only has he not released any album, he has not signed any contract whatsoever with Mo’Hits Records. That he has no right to claim any monies for deals that have been brokered already as at today with the catalogues or stop their usage. It is important to note that any unreleased songs done by any artiste (including D’banj and K-Switch) MUST NOT be released and is not part of the catalogue I am giving away.”

He adds, “With these few points, I do hope that you all realise that I have been generous enough to facilitate the End of the “D’banj & Don Jazzy” era as a team. After this new deal has been signed and sealed, I do NOT look forward to seeing an email whatsoever or hearing from the DKM (D’banj, K-Switch, Mo’Hits) crew, and all is well again.”

Will you return the Bentley I bought for you? – D’banj
Same day, D’banj responded to the email, stating, “In case he (Don Jazzy) forgot, this is the arrangement! 50/50—–song writer/ production, which means for a song X for artiste Y, 75 per cent as per production is fully owned by Mo’Hits and writing is shared 25/25 with the individual artiste co- writing. So, that’s the deal! So him (sic) saying 40 per cent is not his to give away is more like 75per me and 25per each artiste.”

He then asks, “What do you mean by any bills or loans would be cleared by Mr. D’banj? That will never happen because when I ran the company, I ran it perfectly and well. So, if I give him my shares he is left with 100 per cent liability. My catalogue is everything that has been done with the Mo’Hits system and under the normal agreement we have, that means everything I have recorded or that has been recorded whether new or old, or even classic, whether beat with concept or even idea without beats, anything we did as a team and sponsored by me throughout, then, it is mine. Including K-switch clause and all mine and even Wande’s singles and all till the date of signing even today.”

Continuing, D’banj writes, “And now, (I) wanna clear the air on this Samsung deal! I would expect by now that you understand that me keeping quiet is being GENEROUS because this is a deal structured under Mo’Hits Records, (and it is) the first deal and income you would ever bring into the company in  eight years. We shared the first 150k (One hundred and fifty thousand dollars) the right way, 1/3 down and that was cool. But after you collected another 130k and did not say anything (that) is and could be described as theft! I only refused to contact them (Samsung) directly because of your reputation. But please don’t call me a fool and let’s know who is generous!” D’banj was not coy about his anger. He states that after sharing over N1bn with Don Jazzy in their Mo’Hits days, he was shocked that the producer would now sideline him when he got the balance from Samsung.’’

D’banj writes further, “Please, please, will he (Don Jazzy) return the Bentley because I bought it for him and it was N5.2m more than mine? And Prince that he claims has no signed contract but is actively involved and signed via engagement– I win his catalogue too – all recorded whether released now or not! This is because no one questioned me when I bought D’Prince N11m naira car (LR3/Range) without releasing any album just to boost the image of the boy and it worked for him! So, let’s get the facts straight, I AM BEING MORE THAN GENEROUS.”

Good music deal and other issues
After Don Jazzy inferred on twitter that the end might have come for Mo’Hits, E-Punch reliably gathers that D’banj was prevailed upon by close friends and associates not to talk despite being aggrieved that his lifelong friend had painted him black before the public. But the hyperactive entertainer, the source says, may have reached his tether’s end and any moment from now would reveal to the world all that went wrong between him and Don Jazzy. Part of what he will talk about, E-Punch learns, will dwell on the genesis of their separation and the point at which Don Jazzy advised that they did away with Mo’Hits and concentrate on their GOOD Music deal. “It was D’banj who prevailed on him that even if they were going to concentrate on their deal with Kanye, they didn’t need to do away with Mo’Hits,” says the source. When the deal with GOOD Music sailed through, Don Jazzy was signed on as a producer while D’banj was the artiste. By virtue of how the American music system works, producers are only meant to be heard not seen. So, the source says further, “Kanye and D’banj and the other guys were always going out leaving behind the producers, including Don Jazzy, which didn’t go down well with him. After some time, D’banj noticed this and to placate him, he bought both of them a Bentley each. Further, he also bought a house in Atlanta, equipped with high tech studio equipment so that Don Jazzy could be working mostly from their new home but he was not appeased as he felt that he was being outshined by D’banj.”

On the other hand, Don Jazzy allegedly told his close associates that the reason he decided to part ways with D’banj was because of an alleged arrogance which was impacting negatively on the other artistes. Long before Mo’Hits evolved, they were friends before becoming partners, putting up with each other’s shortcomings but fame and money have combined to becloud their tolerance of each other.

Kanye West Admits dating Kim Kardashian, Slams her Ex

Kanye West and Kim at the
In January, Kanye West's ex-girlfriend Amber Rose claimed that Kim Kardashian played a role in her breakup with the rap star. Amber accused West of cheating with the reality TV mogul.

In a new song "Theraflu," released Wednesday, West confirms at least part of Amber's claims, revealing strong feelings for Kardashian.

On the DJ Khaled song, West raps, "And I'll admit, I fell in love with Kim. 'Round the same time she had fell in love with him." The him West refers to is Kardashian's husband Kris Humphries who she is divorcing.

West continues, taking a dig at the New Jersey Nets power forward. "Well, that's cool baby girl, do ya thing. Lucky I ain't have Jay drop 'em from the team." West implies that his good friend Jay-Z, who is a co-owner of the Nets, could have Humphries released from the team.

West and Kardashian have supported each other's projects amid rumors of a secret romance. In March, Kardashian attended West's runway show during Paris Fashion Week. Last year, West appeared on Kardashian's reality show, "Kourtney & Kim Take New York."

Kardashian and West are currently dating and were photographed leaving a New York movie theater Wednesday night after viewing "Hunger Games."

The pair were pictured leaving a movie theatre in New York last night and Kim was seen exiting the rapper's apartment in the same clothes this morning.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Celebrate 4th Wedding Anniversary

Four years after Jay-Z and Beyoncé said "I do," this power couple's romance is stronger than ever.
Jay and Bee madly in love

Since Hova "put a ring on it" in a super-secret ceremony on April 4, 2008, the famously private pair has continued to enjoy immense career success.

But their greatest accomplishment?

The birth of beautiful baby Blue Ivy Carter on January 7.

And while BIC can't talk yet, she's ready shown the world she has her parents' good looks and an impressive set of lungs. Just days after her birth, Blue became the youngest person ever to appear on the Billboard charts.

Justin Bieber treats Selena to a cheap picnic in the park

The loved-up pair cuddled up after munching an al fresco lunch in LA’s Griffith Park.

And while Disney star Selena, 19, turned her face to the sun, Justin kept his beanie hat on for a little extra warmth.
The Baby singer is known for his extravagant dates. He once hired the entire Staples Center stadium and had a steak dinner and a private screening of Titanic laid on for his gorgeous girlfriend.

He tweeted: "Romance isn't dead. Treat your lady right fellas.”

But yesterday the multi-millionaire 18-year-old proved that you could still be romantic on a budget.

All it takes is a pre-packed sarnie, a soft drink and a good dose of Californian sunshine.
Still the besotted duo could have chosen a better spot for their public picnic.

That dry dirt mound must have played havoc with Selena’s pristine white trousers.

Will.i.am takes lessons to learn British slang

The Black Eyed Peas star is trying to learn UK slang because he sometimes struggles to understand what fellow The Voice judges Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O’Donoghue and the contestants are saying.
He’s asked for help from producer Labrinth – who showcased new album Electronic Earth in London last night – after the pair hit it off at the Brits.

A source said: “Will wants a crash course in youth talk.

Pal Cheryl Cole has taught him some of the lingo but Labrinth suggested he watch EastEnders and Skins. Lab’s also going to take him to a footie match.”

Guessing it won’t be Chelsea – he won’t want to mingle with Ashley Cole in the players’ lounge after the game.

Obama’s Quran burning apology: Matters arising

When on February 21, 2012 some copies of the Quran and other religious materials were removed from a detainee facility at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan for disposal, they were inadvertently burnt by United States soldiers.
The Qurans were included for disposal because they had “extremist inscriptions” on them, which aroused the fear that they were being used to fertilize extremist communications. John Allen, commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force, said that the decision to burn them was not because they were religious materials, nor because it had to do with the faith of Islam. He said it was done in error and when they discovered the documents, they immediately stopped and intervened. This singular action sparked off violence of immense magnitude in Afghanistan. President Obama had apologized to Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, promising to hold his subjects accountable – an apology that the rebels dismissed as “mere slogans” and some Americans saw as unnecessary.
In 1988 when the British novelist, Ahmed Salman Rushdie, published The Satanic Verses (a collection of some verses in the Quran alleged to allow intercessory prayers to be made to three Meccan goddesses), Muslims said it made a mockery of their religion which resulted in fatwa (Islamic death sentence) by the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khomeini on February 14, 1989. Then, in July 1991, Hitoshi Igarashi was stabbed to death for translating the book into Japanese.
In 2004, Theo Van Gogh released his documentary film, “Submission”, which documented violence against women in the Muslim world. This cost him his life as Mohammed Bouyeri, an Islamic extremist, murdered him in broad daylight. And even as you read this, a Dutch member of parliament, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who worked with Van Gogh to produce the film, is under twenty-four-hour protection. Bouyeri, the murderer, was convicted to a life sentence without parole. In a courtroom during his trial, Mohammed Bouyeri told his mother that he felt no sympathy for her because she was an unbeliever.
In 2006, a Danish cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard, published a cartoon of Mohammed wearing a bomb. A Somalian fundamentalist broke into his house nearly four years after the publication with the intent to murder him but for the timely intervention of the police. The cartoon was the most controversial of the twelve Jyllands-Posten cartoons of the time.
In 2007 at Unity High School in Sudan, Gillian Gibbons, an English schoolteacher, was arrested, humiliated, prosecuted, convicted, imprisoned, and later deported. And what was her offence? “Blasphemy!” The children in her class named a teddy bear Mohammed. And so, Sara Khawad, an office assistant, filed the complaint and was a key witness in the prosecution. Not even the testimony of one of the school children named Mohammed that the teddy bear was named after him could save the situation.
The catalogue is endless. Everywhere and at all times, the Muslim world is inflamed. In Nigeria, the story is not different. The country had at various times experienced and still experiences carnage of enormous magnitude occasioned by the abuse of the sacred name of the Almighty. Whoever doubts that Prophet Mohammed is an envoy of God cannot be helped. Someday, he will have this truth forced upon him – and perhaps, with considerable pressure too.
But man has shaped, reshaped and twisted divine messages to suit his purpose and convenience, dimming the purity and distorting what meaning that ever was in the “word” to satisfy his ego. This warped view of religion is not only incompatible with the moral code but also contradicts the laws of evidence.
Much as we cannot reduce the import of burning a sacred book, we cannot also rationalize killings in the name of God. When was it ever heard that it is man’s duty to fight for God? When was it man’s place to accept or reject apologies for crimes committed against the Almighty? If we claim to be true servants of God, it must be through a demonstration of true humanity and not otherwise. But at these times, this particular attitude of mankind, of playing contrived roles of divinity, is the most astonishing thing in our time.
Man is held accountable for his actions and inactions through the immutable laws of nature, whether he wills it or not. And so, if a man wakes up and gives to his dog the names of all the gods at once, why should the worshippers at the shrine of those gods lose sleep on the development? At a time in history, the late M.K.O. Abiola ordered the sinking of three million copies of the Bible in the high sea. The container load of the holy book was bound for Nigeria when he used his influence to seize and destroy them. The Christian world did not bat an eyelid. When on August 22, 2011 the Iranian authorities intercepted six thousand five hundred copies of the New Testament Bible and burnt three hundred of them “in order not to deviate [their] youth”, the Papacy did not raise eyebrows and the Christian community did not flare up.
These many deaths and persecutions brought about in the name of Him who is life and peace, to say the least, robs man of his dignity. A rational thinking person would easily see through the falsehood and sham of self-centred truth and must recognize the only truth which is in God and which is God. Intolerance to religious practices is unjustifiable and pictures man’s image worse than he is. At the root of all authentic religious beliefs and practices, love is fundamental – the greatest of all virtues. It conquers all and holds the key to the salvation of man both in this life and in the hereafter. It is man’s duty to pursue peace at all costs and make the world a better place irrespective of creed.

Pictured: Drake dines out in Manchester with new best friend Mario Balotelli

Canadian rap star Drake took his partying to a whole new Premier League when he made best friends with Mario Balotelli during his visit to Manchester at the weekend.

Drake was invited down to watch Manchester City's game against Sunderland by madcap Mario, a huge rap music fan. And straight after the 3-3 draw Mario whisked his new buddy over to Zouk Tea Bar & Grill for a slap up Indian meal. Mario clearly made quite the impression on Drake – as he then waxed lyrical about his new pal to his 15,000 fans packing into his Manchester Arena gig on Sunday night.

He told the crowds that Mario, watching the gig in a blinged up gold ensemble, was his “new family member” despite only knowing him for two days. He added: “No matter what team he's in, he's an amazing football player.” That endorsement will have pleased Mario – who has come under fire for his petulant behaviour from pundits, fans and Blues boss Roberto Mancini.

But hey, he did do his bit to showcase City to Drake at the weekend – letting the rap heart-throb use his executive box at the Etihad Stadium to watch the game, and even getting him a padded sky blue City jacket to take away with him as he jetted off for the next gigs on his ongoing world tour. Mancini will probably be pleased to hear, however, that Mario didn't continue the partying with Drake at his official after-party over at The Bijou Club after that big Sunday night gig.

Drake held court at the lavish bash, packed with fans, and even gave an impromptu performance on the mic on the balcony of the club. Stars including Coronation Street's Ryan Thomas and ex-City footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips were among those heading to the after-party revels.

It was also an impressive turnaround for the Chapel Street club – which had been hit by an arson attack on Thursday night. Bijou boss Damien Matto said: “We had a great night, Drake loved the place and the atmosphere was fantastic.” And it seems it was not only Mario leaving a lasting impression on Drake – who scored a number one hit in the UK with his Rihanna collaboration What's My Name.

For Drake was so impressed with the chillo kebabs and lobster he ate at Zouk on Saturday, I hear he then ordered a huge takeout the very next day from the Chester Street indian restaurant to be delivered to his suite at the swanky Lowry Hotel. Rock 'n' roll...
