Wizkid Escapes Fan Mob At His Father's 70th Birthday Party

Ever since popular singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Wizkid burst into stardom on the heels of his monster hit single, 'Holla At Ur Boy,' life has never been the same. Within a very short space of time,Wizkid suddenly became a household name as millions of music fans across the globe celebrated the glaring success of his musical exploits. Like a falcon digging its talons into an unsuspecting prey,Wizkid sunk his teeth into the very epicenter of the Nigerian music industry and before you could say Freddie Kugar, his musical identity shone like a super- star. Two days back, Banky W's manager, Segun Demuren tweeted the experience he had with his client, banky W and Wizkid while at surulere for wizkid's dad birthday party. Segun described how wizkid was mobbed through hundreds of eager fans at the party. And at the end of the day, he couldn't spend more time with his dad. Segun shares the experience; "Sunday was special. Wizkid's father's 70th birthday, in Surulere, Shitta Bey area. We came prepared we thought… 10 Mopol… We thought wrong! BankyW and I arrived around 6am, plan was to stay for an hour. We call Wizkid, thinking he would be partying with his Dad and dude is sitting in a car surrounded by like 6 Mopol. And he has been this way since 2pm, at his own Father's 70th gig. I couldn't believe it. So we get him out and walk into the event (at a school playground by the way), so he can sit with his father. Big Mistake. In less than 15 seconds, the canopy is swamped, there are 200 phones in the air taking pics, crowd is overwhelming security. MC is announcing for all to sit down… nothing. Wizkid's mum makes it through, she's scared and wants us to leave to their house. Since all the security came to this one tent, they left the main gate free, Area boys have made it through. I'm hearing "Wizzy, Wiz, Baba Wizzo "It's no longer safe, we need to go". We greet Wizkid's dad & make our way to our vehicle, there's at least 150 people around it. What? So security guy carries Wizkid, one manages to open door, bundle Wizkid and BankyW in it. I manage to squeeze in, my clothes stuck in the door. We try to get out, (I'm sure we ran over someone's feet), but it's Surulere's tight streets & so a mob starts chasing the vehicle. So BankyW brings out cash and throws a wad out & they go for that instead. It gives us time to maneuver 5 mins to Wiz's Dad house. I look at BankyW, I look at Wizkid and I feel completely sorry for these guys. I ask if this is how it is & they say even this is nothing! Back in the domain of his father's house, a bit quiet, I look at the kid bb'ing, loosely surrounded by 4 hefty guys. He seems alone. It's his father's 70th birthday & he can't attend it, because his name is Wizkid

WIZKID BECOME MILLIONAIRES’ AT 21, ACQUIRES 6M VW CONVERTIBLE

Sources who are privy to the young singer’s revenue told us, this week, that he has now joined the league of music millionaires.

With a schedule that keeps him busy all week; and enquiries from all over the globe,Wizkid is currently one of the top 5 most wanted pop stars (others on the list include2face Idibia, D’banj and Psquare) . And from an engagement fee of N500-700,000, his management has now upped his fee to a minimum of N1.5M. Big budget clients could be asked for up to N2M and N3M in some cases.

‘There are some weekends when he plays up to three shows. The boy is mad busy and his minders are making the best out of the boom‘, a top industry source tells us.

Wizkid is putting his money into use too, the 21-year-old recently acquired a VW convertible worth N6M (Six million Naira). He has also embarked on shooting big budget videos; starting with the trado-themed shoot for ‘Pakurumo’ on Tuesday November 1. The video was directed by Clarence Peters.

Monthly earnings, we’re told, now sits in the realm of 20M and upwards. And it can only get better; with a MOBO plaque and Headie in his pouch, and a hit-filled debut album that’s still moving units, the EME act seems poised for a bright future – if he and his minders are smart enough not to let celebrity trouble and scandals ruin it

GHANAIAN ACTRESS NADIA BUARI IN SIZZLING ROMANCE

Crooner D'banj just released his latest single entitled,'Oliver Twist' where he proudly says,I like Nadia Buari cos she no dey drink garri right? Well, the real Oliver Twist is none other than D'Banj himself as he can't seem to get enough of women, especially the A-list ones in society. The crooner is currently in a hush hush romance with Ghanaian actress and mother of two,Nadia Buari. And the actress was spotted a fortnight ago(precisely on Friday-Saturday,October 14,15 2011)at the crooner's house where she spent the weekend and paraded herself in a sexy night attire. Other sources also confirm that the two have been an item long before now and have been spotted many times together in Ghana as well. From the look of things,it seems the crooner has a thing for celebrated ladies. It is not a crime but abeg, take it easy because you are leaving behind a string of broken hearted celebrities who cannot openly come out and say so because they let you date and dump them secretly.

Finally, Baba Suwe Excretes 16 Pellets Of Cocaine, Cries like baby

The arrest of Nollywood comic actor, Babatunde Omidina over hard drug is the latest gist in town at the moment. The widower who was arrested on his way to Paris a fortnight ago, we scooped, has excreted over 16 pellets of cocaine last night. A source in the anti-drug agency said that the controversial drug peddler cum Yoruba actor has already excreted some of the drugs he ingested while a large quantity is still lodged in his abdomen. Another reliable source said the suspect has been given a cup of tea to drink that will enable him excrete the remaining drugs while he has been placed on observation. If you recall, this same offence was committed by Baba Suwe about two years now but he had his way out of the situation and called it 'mere rumour' but it's so obvious now that what he tagged as rumour then is now a reality. Baba Suwe, we learnt, has been crying like a baby and pleading for forgiveness but all his pleas are to no avail. While serious investigation is going on to know how he came about it, some top marketers are alleged to be busy inducing officials of NDLEA with huge bribe to get him out of the dragnet. We gathered. We shall keep you posted as event unfolds.

Tonto Dike gets mysterious back tatoo

The buzz has been all over. Some people love it, some people hate it, but you can’t deny that Tonto Dike’s new tattoo is all round unique. The tattoo is art version of her face with some interesting looking head with horns.

The sassy actress is known for not caring too much what people think of her, and in the industry she’s in, that might actually be a plus to her.

She’s currently in the US for the nollywood movie, Damage tour and will be hitting Atlanta this weekend for another premiere event.

So what do you think of the tattoo? Yay or Nay?

2face, Ice Prince, Dr SID and Wizkid Headlines 2011 Headies’ as big winners

It was a night of surprises and big thrills at the much anticipated 2011 edition of The Headies as one of Africa’s biggest exports 2face Idibia emerged the biggest winner of the night scooping three plaques including two out of the big three awards!

The 36-year-old walked away with the awards for the Best R&B/Pop Album, Album of the Year and biggest award of the night Artiste of the Year. With ‘The Unstoppable International Edition’ released in 2010, 2face edged out other contenders like D’banj, M.I, Darey, Dr. SID, Duncan Mighty and Asa. It was all love though as even Don Jazzy climbed the stage to congratulate Idibia.

The highest nominee of the 2011 awards, Chocolate City’s Ice Prince walked away with two awards being the Best Rap Single and Song of the Year for the 2010 smash hit ‘Oleku’. R&B king Darey and pop singer Dr. Sid were also double winners; the former won the awards for Best R&B single (The way you are) andRecording of the Year while the Mo’Hits crew member bagged his first ever awards for Best Pop Single and Revelation of the Year.

Pop sensation Wizkid won the Next Rated Award beating other contenders Tiwa Savage, oLamide and Ice Prince to win the coveted prize of a brand Hyundai Sonata!

While many were surprised to see Kennis Music R&B singer Capital F.E.M.I win the award for the Best Vocal Performance (Male) over Darey, Bez and Timi Dakolo, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see veteran rapper Modenine pick up the award forLyricist on the Roll for the sixth time in a row.

The performances however varied; R&B singer Waje who won the award for Best Vocal Performance (Female) dazzled the crowd as she performed her ‘So inspired’ single along with Muna. M.I was also spectacular on stage; even though BrymO andFlavour where missing when he performed ‘Action Film’ and ‘Number one’, the rapper still got massive cheers from the crowd. It was however the Afro Juju king, Sir Shina Peters that had the best performance of the night as he got the crowd standing and singing to his 90’s classics…

Sound Sultan also surprised guests when he brought on stage comediennePrincess and Eniola Badmus (Gbo gbo bigz girls in the Jenifa movie) to perform his hit song ‘Orobo’.

It was nice to see Omawumi get back on stage after a hiatus as she gave a wonderful account of herself on stage. The singer who wore a two-piece lace attire, gave one of the nights best sets, delivering like a maestro that she now is, her ‘If you ask me’ single, backed by a 10-piece man band and supported by drama sketches by Gbenga Adeyinka and Tomi of ‘Tinsel’.

The biggest shock of the night was when Mo’Hits’ Dr. SID fumbled his performance on stage. The pop singer didn’t quite cue with the DJ who played the wrong performance CD. The two time Headie winner started out for a few minutes then stopped abruptly as he apologized ‘I’ll come back guys’. Sid must have forgotten that his mic was on when he cursed out while at backstage ‘F***k’. Maybe if the singer had opted to a live band performance just like every other performer of the night had done and excelled at, the slip up might have been avoided.

The night’s hosts – eLDee and Rita Dominic unfortunately and surprisingly, performed below expectations. But eLDee occasionally managed to put his act together while Rita, a truly brilliant actress and performer goofed all the way, often upsetting her lines with poor attempts at stand-up or poorly delivered banters with eLDee who kept puffing a cigar. Rita Dominic may go into record as the worst co-host the prestigious awards show has ever had. Thankfully, there were intermittent voice-overs from backstage guiding guests through the night’s event.

Here’s a full list winners below…

RAPPER FREESTYLE AND VINA JOINS KISS FM AS HEAD OF PRODUCTION

Talented rapper/producer Mfon Essien better known as Freestyle has taken up employment at Kiss FM 99.9, Abuja, Nigeria. The former member of the defunct rap group Trybesmen will resume as Head of Production at the station which is located in Wuse II area of Abuja. Freestyle was formerly at Hot Fm, Abuja but had to leave. According to him, the brand was ‘conflicting’. ‘I was approached by Kiss FM and I went for the job. I have always had a passion for presenting. After studying radio courses in the UK, I haven’t really gotten the chance to do that’, Freestyle told Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) in a telephone conversation. ‘The main reason I’m in Abuja is because I’m studying for my Masters. But I’ll be working from the background with Kiss FM. It’ll give others a chance to present too’, he added. Also, one for Nigeria’s representative at the Big Brother Amplified show, Vina, will also be working with the station. Sources say she and Freestyle will be the official brand ambassadors of the radio station. Freestyle who recently changed the spelling of his name to Fr33style also disclosed that his long-awaited follow up album titled ‘My Name is Essien’ is already in the mass production stage.
